The Mixture that is Mimi

Posted by Mimi on March 31st, 2008 filed in Humor, Life

My mother and father couldn’t have come from more different family backgrounds. The result for them was a short marriage that ended in divorce when I was a toddler. Well, add a few other things in there, like being young and dumb and not ready for marriage. Don’t get me started on being young and dumb and not ready for marriage. . . I walked down that aisle road once before myself.

The result of their differing families for me has been exposure to two different worlds. Really different. I like to say I am part W.T., and part Upp-i-ty.

My mom’s family is a fun group of crazies. My dad’s family is more reserved and conservative. A bit Aristocratic.

When my Dad’s family stumbles on this blog they will likely be horrified to see themselves mentioned. My mom’s family will likely guffaw and belly laugh about it. That is, assuming they paid their electric bill and have computer access:

“Sheeeuut. Did you see that Mimi dun told about the time I robbed a Sonic because I was too lazy to get out of the car to rob someone? Whoo hoooooo! I am FAMOUS now!”

My father’s family won’t be able to get past the fact that I mentioned farts. After all, that word (and topic) is so crude. They don’t fart.

I am proud to be my own unique mixture. I learned from one side how to excel in college, which fork to use for the salad, and how to shop at Neiman’s. From the other side I learned how to raise chickens, how to grow a garden, and how to make a fart noise using just my hand and my sweaty armpit.

And by the way, if any of my family members (or friends) get offended by what I blog, just remember what Mee Maw says: “If you don’t want people talking about it, then you shouldn’t have done it”.

I think bowling would be a more appropriate (sp) subject or noodling (sp) in Oklahoma. Lots of topics to discuss-good luck!!

Love this story. It sort of reminds me of my two families, only not quite as extreme on the refined side. Thanks for pimping your blog on the AM chatgroup–I gotcha in my Google reader now ;)

haha “If you don’t want people talking about it, then you shouldn’t have done it.” Classic… People think that quote is funny until you apply it to them. I like what you’re doing here, it’s a movement of realism.

Oh yes, and thanks for the plug.
