Tick Cocktail
Posted by Mimi on May 15th, 2008 filed in LymeFor those of you following my Lyme saga, let me give you a little more LYME 101. When a tick infects you with Lyme, he likely also infects you with at least one other nasty bacteria. A “Tick Cocktail,” so to speak. A good LLMD (Lyme Literate Doctor) will test you for co-infections. I was tested and I just got the news this week.
I lucked out. Um. Sort of? The good news is so far I have only tested positive for two additional infections. The bad news is one of them is a cousin to malaria. MALARIA FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.
Damn. I should have gone on an exotic African safari if I was gonna get this. I could have gotten it by wrestling with an alligator in a mosquito infested swamp. At least it would have made for a more interesting story than “I was bitten by a tick, but I don’t remember it”.
Now my huge array of “Lyme Aid” pharmaceuticals and supplements includes an anti-malarial drug. You should have seen the look on the pharmacist’s face. She actually asked me why my doctor prescribed it.
Oh yeah, this medication is known for causing lots of nausea and vomiting. Awesome. Cause everyone knows its easy for me to run to the bathroom to puke.
Friggin’ tick. I curse you.
