The Rogue Rodent
Posted by Mimi on June 11th, 2008 filed in Animals, Humor, RescueThis is Jackson, the watermelon eating squirrel. We rescued him when he was only days old and the size of a mouse. Some people found him after his mother abandoned him. His mom must have known that Jackson is a bit “special” (in the short bus kind of way). He isn’t the brightest bulb in the chandelier. In fact, when he was almost ready to be released he ran head first into a fan in one of the barns. As a result, he broke a foot, gashed his head open, and chopped off half of his tail. Maybe it was a desperate attempt to stay here on the funny farm. I don’t know, but it worked. We kept him quite a bit longer until he was nursed back to health.
What Jackson didn’t have for brains he made up for in his heart. He was one of the sweetest squirrels we ever had. Once he was so eager to greet the UPS guy that he started chattering and jumped on his head. The UPS guy told me he just about had a heart attack, screaming and swatting at Jackson until the he jumped onto a tree and scampered off. Lets just say the UPS guy’s underwear probably matched his uniform that day. He said he jumped in his truck and was half way down our driveway when he realized that Jackson probably wasn’t a rabid psycho, but one of our rescues. Our poor UPS guy- he endures a lot when he comes here.
