Another Life Saved

How friggin’ cute is this?

For those of you who think only mixed breed dogs end up in the kill shelter, you are dead wrong (pardon the pun). In fact, there are a large number of “purebred” dogs that get the axe everyday. There are even lots of “designer dogs” who meet that fate. It is sad, really.

This is a picture of a Chinese Crested. They are relatively rare and quite pricey. I have always wanted one– they make me laugh. This dog and another got pulled from a kill shelter recently by my friend, Jimmy (www.georgetowndogrescue.com). Now they are in an adoption program.

My point in all this is twofold. Firstly, if you have any extra time to volunteer, or extra money to donate, please consider a shelter or an animal rescue organization. My personal favorites are the grassroots type groups who go into shelters and grab dogs off death row. Secondly, if you are considering adding a dog or cat to your family (or any pet for that matter), PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE look at a shelter or rescue group.

There are lots of breed-specific rescue groups, so look in your area, or check out www.petfinder.com which will list pets in your area with your specific desires (gender, breed, etc.).

You might even find a dog as cute as these two.
