Animal, Vegetable, Mineral
Posted by Mimi on July 25th, 2008 filed in Humor, Life, ParentingI am sure I will go to hell for blogging about my mother in law. But, MIL jokes have been around long before I existed to blog about mine.
My MIL came over today and brought a plate of leftovers. My in-laws eat delicious food. Not nutritious food. In fact, I can honestly say that except for Thanksgiving dinner, I do not recall ever being served a green vegetable at their house. Unless you count their occasional iceberg salad, which has absolutely no nutritional value and isn’t actually green, but rather white. In all fairness, I should also mention that my MIL seems quite healthy physically. Meanwhile, I eat healthy foods and am puny.
Today she was feeding Cooper macaroni and cheese. My son has had mac and cheese about three times in his life. Poor kid.
MIL: He must get macaroni and cheese often because he sure is eating a lot of it. (Logic gets lost with this woman).
Me: No. . . he is eating a lot of it because he doesn’t get it very often.
MIL: Oh. That is too bad. It is so good for him.
Me: I don’t think it is really all that good for him. You know, it isn’t a vegetable. Or a fruit.
MIL: He needs to get his carbohydrates from somewhere. (Yes. Let’s not worry about his nutrient intake. Let’s make sure he meets his RDA of carbohydrates).
Me: Yep. He gets those in his vegetables. And fruits. And whole wheat.
MIL: (getting a little frustrated) Well, this is good for him.
Me: It is made from white flour and cheese. Name one vitamin in mac and cheese.
MIL: Milk.
I want to live in her world. Where mac ‘n cheese is good for you, milk is a vitamin, and chocolate milk is probably a super-vitamin.

OMG, I was ROTFL – I can visualize the whole thing. How is it that she eats what she does and seems to be pretty healthy and you’re the complete opposite? I don’t get it. Maybe you need to rethink all those preservatives? LOL Miss you like crazy, girl!!
