Kmart Feet

Have you heard the term K-mart feet? It is what you get when you walk around barefoot in a store or some other place that hasn’t been cleaned properly. Now, I no longer make it a practice to walk around barefoot, but I did as a child. I know all about K-mart feet.

Unfortunately, they reared their ugly head the other night.

We went on a wonderful vacation to Ruidoso, New Mexico. We pulled into the metropolis that is Big Spring, Texas in the evening of our first day. It was our half way point to Ruidoso, so we decided to pull in for the night. You would normally consider Big Spring to be a relatively easy city in which to get a hotel room spur of the moment, right? You don’t exactly think of it being a big tourist attraction or the latest location for Disney on Ice or some other super popular venue.

Oops Forgot about that recent refinery explosion. Apparently Big Spring doesn’t have people to clean the refinery. They have to hire people from all over to converge on the town in order to get things done. Oh yeah, and pay to put them up for the night, week, month.

We called damn near every hotel, motel, and inn in the entire city. I thought we were going to have to stay away in a manger when finally we found the last available room at the beautiful Plaza Inn. Yes, I am being facetious with my use of the word beautiful.

I don’t have to have fancy, but I do have to have clean. And let me tell you, the Plaza Inn is neither. Just as we were about to go to bed, we noticed Cooper was sporting K-mart feet. Ewwww. We bathed him immediately, but I can’t say it made me feel like he was clean. We had to bathe him again the next morning. I don’t even want to know what else was dirty in that place. <shudder>

Ok, that made me want to vomit! How did you even get any sleep? I don’t know what I would have done….probably cry and sleep in the car. You are braver than I.
