That is So Gay!
Posted by Mimi on February 27th, 2009 filed in Life, RantTo make a drastic change of topic, I would like to talk about gay marriage for a second.
I don’t get it. Seriously, I don’t get it.
I don’t mean I don’t get why two people of the same sex would want to marry. I mean I don’t get how it is still illegal.
Let’s see. There is what the church calls a marriage, and then what the state basically sees as a contract. Now, I totally get how churches have the right to refuse to let gays marry in their church. That is their right, I think, as a religious organization. I would never have that rule if I ran a church, but I see how certain groups have the right to exclude others from membership. But, what the hell is the state thinking? The state issues a license to get married, just as other governmental offices issue a fishing license, a drivers license, or a business license. Can you imagine if the state refused to let two people go into business together because they were both male? Or if they didn’t issue a fishing license to someone because they were the wrong gender?
Can you imagine if you were completely in love with someone with whom you had spent the best years of your life, and they were unable to be at your side as you took your last breath? Seriously, people, think about it. Imagine if the love of your life lay in that hospital bed, knowing their life is slipping away and wondering why you haven’t come in the room to comfort them. Thats exactly what happened to Janice Langbehn, and her lover of 17 years, Lisa Marie Pond. (Yes, Janice had legal power of attorney, but the hospital still refused). It happens every day to gay couples.
I said earlier that I think churches have the right to refuse to marry gays. It doesn’t mean I like it that churches exercise that right. But, in addition to churches exercising their power at the pulpit, they also keep influencing the power at the poll.
Now, I know this topic may get some of you good and pissed off — on both sides of the issue. I might even lose some of my readership over it. But I don’t really care. After all, I think their are bigger issues to be pissed off about than marriage between two men or two women. How about the marriage between church and state, or even worse, the marriage between church and hatred.

Amen! You know I agree 110% Now if the rest of the country would just see it that way. You can’t choose who you fall in love with, whether it’s the opposite sex or the same sex and no one should be faulted for loving someone of their same gender. Love is love no matter who you are and everyone should be allowed the same rights regardless.

Yeah, it’s pretty ridiculous… The stupid part is they let “the people” decide if gays should have rights or not… While we’re at it, let’s let everyone re-vote to see if black people should have rights…
I’ll never understand why the majority still rules when it comes to minority issues. Of course, the stupidity started when the government decided they were going to call a lawful partnership “marriage.”

Also, you’re right; it is gay.

I agree that the government should not be allowed to determine what is a “civil union” between two consenting adults. The State issuing the papers and recording the union should love it because they will collect more fees, perhaps hire a few more clerks… The trickle down of dollars for gay “weddings” could really help the economy.
