It’s Outta Here!

The surgery went well.  The brain surgeon said the tumor was “enormous” and that he removed about 98% of it, so we will have to schedule a few rounds of radiation.  Obviously, because it was wrapped around his optic chiasm and other important things in his noggin, they avoided pulling all of it out.   They have a team of doctors who did the surgery.  First, an ENT doctor “broke” his nose and then the brain surgeon pulled the tumor out through one nostril, while shoving cameras, etc. up the other nostril.  Then the ENT doctor patched things up again. Kinda cool.  Thank goodness Dave has a big schnoz.

The surgeon said Dave was recovering faster than anyone he had seen in a long time.

I was able to visit Dave at the hospital every day, though I was getting weak near the end of the week.  We had lots of visits and messages from friends and family and lots of support.

As we left the hospital for a few hours on the day of surgery I saw a huge family coming into the hospital.  I imagined they were going to meet a new family member in the maternity ward because they were dressed to the nines and were all smiles.  There were about 12 of them huddled in front of the hospital trying to get in.    As I passed them,  I warned them to be careful because I had ripped one in the revolving door and it was stuck in there.

Geez.  I thought my mom was going to disown me.  I don’t know what possessed me.  I guess I needed some comic relief.

Oh well.  They got a good laugh, too.
